Q: 1978 Jeep Wagoneer runs great cold but has misfire / does not run when warm?
The jeep has 360 amc with manual choke so I don't think it is a choke issue. Some times it does it and sometimes no. The problem is that it will idle in park just fine and has no problems but as soon as you put it in drive, the thing falls on its face and dies.
A: either weak spark or lean fuel mix. start by warming it up then applying 1\4 to 1\2 of manual choke if this helps then it is mostly fuel issue. check all possible vacum leaks, adjust or repair carb. if no improve ment when choked replace coil & inspect ignition system.
Q: My 1978 Jeep wagoneer wont start.?
My 1978 Jeep will not start after it has been running for a while. It will start if I let it set a few days, then I run it around the block and turn it off. When I try to start it agian I have no luck. It turns over fine, it is getting fuel and the battery is good.
Any ideas please help
A: Hook the spark tester (below) up to a spark plug wire and see if you're getting spark or not when the problem occurs.

Q: Jeep Axles?
Will 1978 Jeep Cherokee/Wagoneer Dana 44 axles fit on a 1989 YJ Wrangler? If so, are any modifications required?
A: Sorry, not in the front.
The 1978 Wagoneer front D-44 has a Passenger-Side Drop configuration, whereas all of the YJ front axles are Driver's Side Drop.
The good news is that a later model (1980s) Wagoneer 'Narrow Track' D-44 is a great swap for a YJ... But keep in mind that the Wagoneer hubs are 6-bolt, so the 5-bolt wheels that you have now won't fit.
