Q: Where is the float in the gas tank of a 73 jeep wagoneer?
We just got a 73 jeep wagoneer and the gas gauge doesnt work. My husband found we guess its the sending unit, but there was no float on it. We drained the tank out and it was not in there. Jeep couldnt tell me where it is because their computers and catalogues only go back to 1981.
A: ok when you pulled your sending unit there is a long metal bar ...on the end of that bar should be the float...if its not there its in the tank or its missing here is a link to a pic of your sending unit http://www.mtscompany.com/images/sendingunits/jwsu-1.jpg
and your part # is > jwsu-1 < i hope i helped ,good luck.
Q: How do I identify the "type, brand, model" of carburetor on my 1985 jeep wagoneer xj?
I always hear of Rochester and Carter but how do i go about identifying mine?
A: Im not for sure but all the carberators I know of Have the name and should be some id numbers in a decently visible place. You may have to remove the breather and possibly a hose if it is blocking the name but it should be on there. You can call a part store if it is factory and they can tell you what it is.
Q: Where can I buy the Jeep ® Wagoneer SE Tandem Stroller?
I like this tandem stroller a lot b/c it looks super sturdy fabric and lots of nice storage, but where can I buy it? Anyone own it and suggest carseats? It does allow for two carseats at the same time?
A: babiesrus.com
Q: can a different molding be put on the exterior of a 1991 jeep Grand wagoneer?
I do not like the woodgrain trim and i want to replace it. IS it possible, where can i get the molding?
A: Im sure.. Look in a JC whitney catolog... they have all kinds of aftermarket stuff for older rides like that...
Q: I am repainting an AMC Jeep Grand Wagoneer. What color and design should I do for it?
I am thinking blue with some sort of design in white.
A: Paint it what you want, its you car.
I would go with dark green on the non wood areas. Just put new wood paneling where to old stuff was. I want one of these really bad. Our cattle hoof trimmer has one that is siting outside for years rusting away. It needs frame work (VERY RUSTED OUT). And is in sorry interior shape. But I still want it.
Q: swapping a 5.3l vortec out of a 2003 chevy 2wd into a 1983 Jeep wagoneer any sugestions?
I am planning on swappingthis engine into my waggy which currently has a turbo 400 with an np229 any suggestions and how hard is this going to be in all actuality? Any help is apreciated!
So so far every one on here has said really hard yet every one on FSJ forum says keep the engine and 4l80e together and use the Novak adapter to hook it to the NP229 and either use the stock wiring harness (which was carefully taken apart and labeled corectly) or use a wiring harness from painless and use the larger fuel tank. Whole project etc will cost only 650 or so since the only needed parts are the adapter, mounts, and new fuel lines gas tank straps etc. Put a chevy 4.3 in a wrangler before so Im hoping its not too much harder
A: if the harness is in a complete state as you said it is all ready mostly hooked up its almost a closed loop system to begin with should have a few wires from under the dash for hot,12 volt, tach and the ground pretty easy set up and yes i would probably go ahead and get the adapter so that you can have the o.d. since you have done the v-6 in a jeep you should have a pretty good idea of what is going on good luck
Q: Can I put a chevy 350 in my '88 Jeep Grand Wagoneer?
Is there a conversion kit for putting a GMC 350 in an older Jeep Grand Wagoneer?
What about fuel injection?
A: too much change over your gonna have to change the trans ,drive shaft motor mounts are gonna have to be drilled also your gonna have to change the radiatorif your gonna put in a chevy motor with fuelinjection just run the same fuel line but with out your gonna have to change the fuel pump take it out of the gas tank then you will have to get a new fuel tank its alot of changeover work major project put a 383 fuel injected enjine in keep it chrylser its alot easier
Q: 22 Gallon Fuel Cell for Jeep Grand Wagoneer?
I'm looking for a NEW 22 gallon fuel cell for my Grand Wagoneer. I need it to have a gauge so that I can keep track of how much gas I have left. I'd like it to be under $1,000 but as long as it's high quality I'm good with anything someone comes up with.
Any help would be great.
A: Have one custom built, add an aftermarket sending unit/gauge and I would be willing to bet it would cost less than 600. Or try to find a NOS ( New Old Stock ) piece. There out there for sure
Q: Headliner on a 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer?
Here's the deal....I had some major interior leaks coming from my roof due to my roof rack not being installed correclty so my headliner and backboard got soaked and started to drop. I want to replace the headliner but I cannot find a backboard anywhere! And the backboard that came out of my Jeep is long gone. Does anyone know where I can get one or give me some clever ideas for fixing this?
A: I just checked all part#'s cloth, vinyl, with or without a sliding sunroof and none of them are still available at a dealership. Also in my checking all we list is the headliner its self no backboard listed seperately, so it is all 1 unit.
A few places you could check (they are all amc, and jeep forums) www.bulltear.com, www.amcforum.net, www.theamcforum.com I am sure someone on one of these websites would have one for you.
Q: Does a jeep wagoneer with a front D44 have a driver side drop and a non-vacuum actuated disconnect?
A: It all depends on what year Waggy you're looking at.
All are 6x5.5 bolt pattern:
75-79 Are the highly prized axles. They are passenger side diff, disk brake, 65 inches wide, and the flat top knuckles.
Some of the 83-84 were driver drop with vacuum disconnect and the 2 piece inner shafts, avoid them. With the exception of the few 83-84's most of the 80-91 Waggy Dana 44's that you'll find are driver drop, disk brake, 62.5 inches wide, non flat top knuckles.
Q: 1974–1983 Jeep Cherokee or Cherokee Chief or Wagoneer Two Door?
I have dreamed of owning a first generation Jeep Cherokee, Cherokee Chief, or Wagoneer two door. The problem is that NO BODY has them here in Ohio. Any idea on how I could find one? I have tried Ebay and Craigslist. IT MUST BE TWO DOOR!!
I plan on droping a Cummins Diesel into it and runnin he rin the mud.
Hey, Jeeps and other vehicles built in the 70's beat ANYTHING on the road today. They are A LOT more solid than your little riceburner.
A: Here are a few websites for you to check on.
www.ifsja.org
www.bulltear.com
www.amccars.net
www.theamcforum.com
You will probably have the best luck on the ifsja forum.
Q: Will the steering column from a 76 jeep wagoneer fit on a 78 jeep cj7?
I know I have to change the yoke, but I was wondering if the wiring was the same?
A: No, the wiring harness is completely different because of the different designs of the vehicles.
Q: 88 jeep wagoneer thing above rearview mirror?
not sure what this thing is, it looks standard, and is missing the face of whatever it is. shows what looks to be a computer mother board inside of it. any ideas?
A: It is the receiver for the infra red remote entry system. You had to point the key fob at it to get the doors to unlock.
I replaced mine with an aftermarket system because you had to be right at the window to get it to pick up on mine. I just connected the new controller to the existing wires and it works great.

Q: Jeep Wagoneer engine noise?
I have a 1989 Jeep Wagoneer with a straight 6. I have about 240K miles on it right now. When I try to start the engine it turns over briefly (for about 2 seconds). The engine then jerks, shudders and makes a horrible noise. It is a "whurring" and soft scraping sound that occurs as the engine turns over. To me it sounds like a piston is sliding against the wall. The turning over and then whurring noise occurs in cycles if i attempt to start the engine for a few seconds. Any ideas?
A: Sounds like you have metal-on-metal. One quick fix to the problem would be to try changing your oil. Put four quarts of Valvoline Max Life in the crankcase, as well as a quart of that Lucas Oil that is starting to be seen everywhere. Its actually good s**t--I've got 178k on my 305 in my '78 Malibu. That may take care of the scraping by making sure that everything is being covered in oil. If you've got 240k on your engine, its not worth going through because you're going to open up a bag of worms if you do that. If everything else is in decent condition, see if you can get a remanufactured straight six or, if I remember right, those also came with a 318 V8 if its the full-sized woody. Those things can't be killed with a day off of work and a mission statement.
