Q: How hard is it to replace a radiator on a 1997 Jeep Cherokee?
I need to replace the radiator on my 1997 Jeep Cherokee. I plan to do the work myself. I'm mechanically inclined but have never replaced a radiator. How difficult is it to do?

A: We got pretty quick at doing these on a friends Jeep when she tried a series of used radiators. Just drain the coolant. Usually by removing the lower radiator hose. It makes a mess so be prepared to catch the potentially toxic fluid. Keep your pets away. Remove the plate that connects the two sides of the front end. This plate covers the radiator. Disconnect the AC condenser mounting tabs. Remove the electric fan and the shroud from the mechanical fan. You can leave the shroud wrapped around the fan just disconnect it from the radiator. Remove the radiator and swap in the new one. Reconnect every thing and fill it back up with coolant. The 4.0 often traps air in the head when you swap out the radiator. The coolant level will drop after a few heat cool cycles as the air works its way out. Mike http://mikestrawbridge.com/jeep-cherokee-off-road.shtml

Q: What gas is better Premium OR Regular for my 1995 Jeep Cherokee larado?
I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado and I heard that using super is a better alternative than regular unleaded, due to the fact that there is more ethanol in today's fuels. This this question could also be more general to "older" engines as well.

A: You would most likely have to measure your MPGs with one, then the other. Some people have more success than others using Premium. I stick to Regular with 6 ounces of marvel mystery oil at each fill up to keep things clean, I get the best MPGs with that method.

Q: 2005 Jeep Cherokee - Check Engine light and Transmission slipping into different gear?
I bought a 2005 JEEP CHEROKEE in July of '06 and since then the check engine light has come on during several occassions. I have taken into the dealship and they tell me that nothing is wrong or it's the gas cap and turn it off. My issue is that if I have to take it into have a smog check, it will automatically fail if the check engine light is on. I don't want to have to pay everytime for the dealership to turn off the light. Another problem is that on a few occasions the transmission will switch into a lower gear while I am driving or it won't upshift to a higher gear. Is any one else having these problems?

A: I also have a 05 Grand Cherokee & I continue to have problems w/ the transmission (feels like it is slipping & it will light up all the gears occassionally while driving). The dealership has replaced the "gear shift module" after bringing it in on several occasions!!! I also had the battery replaced two mos ago & it wouldn't start again tonight. I've had it w/ this car. Good luck!!

Q: Where can I find a serpantine belt diagram for a 1997 Jeep Cherokee?
I am trying to figure out if I have put the serpantine belt on correctly on my 1997 Jeep Cherokee sport. I am having trouble finding a diagram.

A: If you can't find the diagram under the hood- usually a white sticker with black printing- check your owners manual. If you don't have that then go to your local car parts place and ask if their computer has it listed or if they have a vehicle maintenance manual you can look at. Also check out Autozone.com and look under repair info, follow the prompts and the belt diagram should be there too. Hope this helps.

I have a Jeep Cherokee Sport for 1997, how much time should it warm up in the winter??And in snow?? I live in I live in North Bergen ,NJ Please help, my wife usually warms it up for about 10 minutes.

Q: what is the country that manufacture Jeep Cherokee and how this car, it is good or not ?
I want to know if the jeep cherokee is good in consuming petrol and the price of the sapre parts is suitable or expensive. In onther way, I want information for Jeep cherokee to take a decision to buy this car and thanks in advance for all.

A: Cherokees are built really well and very affordable. I have a '99 XJ with 100k miles and had nothing major gone wrong with it. The straight six engine is really good too. my brother has owned 3 Cherokees in the past and he wouldn't go with anything else. All of them had high mileage and they were still going strong. I would check out www.jeepforum.com and ask people around there what they think about the Cherokee. You will hear the pros and cons, but from what I know and seen, the Cherokee has been one of the best older models you can buy. Parts are cheap and it's very easy to work on yourself.

Q: Why is my Jeep Cherokee Sport pushing oil out of fill cap, dipstick tube and oil filter?
I have a '95 Jeep Cherokee Sport with the in-line 6 cyl. I recently noticed that the rocker arm cover gasket was leaking and it looked like it had pushed out the corner of the gasket. I replaced the rocker arm cover gasket and it's not leaking now but once I replaced it oil started leaking out of the filler cap, the dipstick tube, and the oil filter. What is going on here? I fix one leak and I get 3 more.

A: I had this happen to my Cherokee, I lost 2 quarts of oil in 10 minutes. The rubber line to my PCV valve had become pinched. There is bypass when this happens forces oil out the crank case. This PCV valve has a line that runs to your air filter box. Check that line to make sure it is not clogged or pinched in any way also inspect the PCV valve itself to make sure it is not clogged. Q: Is it possible to add a hitch to me Jeep Cherokee by myself?
I want to add a hitch to my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee so i can put a hitch mount bicycle rack on it. Is it possible to do it yourself? Where do I find the hitch mount hardware? What is the cost? Thanks for any help.

A: Yes it's possible. I added one to my 95 Grand Cherokee. I bought mine at Walmart for less than $200. It came with everything I needed except a light kit.

Q: Where is the horn relay located on a 1990 jeep Cherokee 4X4?
I have a Haynes manual for the Cherokee but it makes no mention of the horn relay in the wiring schematics. I have located about 4 others but none are for the horn that I can tell. This is not my first jeep but it has been the most challenge.

A: Some of the Haynes books are junk. I wish they would put out one for each year ans model and engine. Searching though the book is a Royal Pain! There are many things I can't find in mine, too. Try to follow the wire back from the horns themselves to the relay. If you can't follow the wires back , I would disconnect the horns and as someone is pushing the horn, listen for the click of the relay GOOD luck.

Q: What is the approx. cost of lifting and putting a system in a jeep cherokee?
I want to buy a jeep cherokee and lift it a little bit and put a system in it so it has a nice bass. About how much would that cost including the truck? I know that it could vary a lot but I'm just looking for ideas because I have no clue how much it costs to put a system in a truck or lift a truck. So anything will help. Thanks.

A: 2" lift will be $500 installed 4" lift will be $1000 installed cheap system will be $600 installed nice system will be $1000 installed They quit making Cherokees some time ago (replaced by Liberty). Kelly Blue book says that a 2000 Cherokee 4 door / auto costs 4,815 in good condition. So, your Jeep should be between $5915 and $6815

Q: How long will a Jeep Cherokee run for?
I'm looking at a Jeep Cherokee (not Grand Cherokee) from 2001 that has 110 thousand miles on it. It looks to be in good shape, but I have no idea how long this kind of Jeep would run.

A: I have seen a 1991 Jeep Cherokee had over 600,000 miles on it with original engine and still running today. The Jeep had a 4.0 engine that was well taken care of. The oil and maintenance were done on time. Depending what engine is in the Jeep, I've found that the 4.0 engine is the best. So I think that a 2001 Jeep with a 4.0 that was well taken care of will last a long time as long as you take care of it.

Q: Installing new speakers and amp in old Jeep Cherokee head unit?
I just purchased 4 new speakers and a new amp to install in my Jeep Cherokee. Do I need to purchase a new head unit in order to get this system working or can I install everything using my old head unit? Any help or links would be great. Thanks! I saw something online about how you need to "get a line level converter to bring the preamped stereo outputs back down to line levels to feed the amp". Is there a certain line level converter I would need?

A: most line level converters are teh same. which is you cut the speaker wires, wire the converter into it, and then plug rca jacks onto the end of it. not really brain surgery. but to tell you the truth buy a new head unit. you will get a better cleaner crisper sound than using the converter. and even if you can only afford an entry level head unit that will still be better than the stock one
